As an engineering firm, Witteveen+Bos has focused on consultancy and engineering services projects in the fields of infrastructure, water, the environment, spatial development and construction for a long time. However, a shift in the industry towards smarter, faster and flexible solutions is happening. In recent projects a combination of domain knowledge and ICT is applied to create better solutions.

In this lunch lecture we will elaborate on how ICT can be used to make smarter decisions in infrastructural projects. We will present two cases. The first is about converting large amounts of ship GPS data into dashboards. These dashboards are used by policy makers to decide where the next harbour project should happen. The second case is about converting the traditional consultation procedure of development plans. We will present the main challenges of converting this procedure into smarter and more accessible digital way of public participation. With these two cases we will try to show you how we apply ICT at Witteveen+Bos for our conservative customers in a conservative market.
