‘Look after your friend’-training

Your time as a student can be a lot of fun, but it can also be challenging sometimes. If things are not going so well for you, chances are great you first talk to your friends about it before talking to anyone else. After all, your friends are approachable and are in the same stage of life as you, facing the same difficulties. However, as a friend this might sometimes be difficult and raise a lot of questions: ‘how can I help my friend without letting it affect myself too much?’, ‘how can I listen to someone in a way that makes them feel heard?’, ‘what does a certain diagnosis actually mean?’, and many more.

To help out with these types of questions and struggles, the psychologists of the UT have developed a training in collaboration with the Student Union. In this training, given by two student trainers, several topics will be discussed:

  • Practical tips on looking after your friend
  • Supporting a friend through the student journey
  • Understanding your friend’s diagnosis
  • Knowing your services: getting professional help in- and outside of the UT

The training consists of 2 sessions of 1,5 hours, which complement each other. You will be asked to do a short preparation beforehand and you will also receive a guide containing extensive information on the topic. The training will be given fully in English. The training sessions for Inter-Actief will take place on Monday, December 6 from 19:30 until 21:00 and on Wednesday, January 19 from 19:30 until 21:00.

Do you want to know more about the content of the training? Check out our Canvas page (https://canvas.utwente.nl/enroll/XH3GJB), containing more information. You can enrol on the canvas page without participating in the training, so feel free to check it out! To sign up for the training, you need to enrol on this page and you need to enrol yourself on the Canvas page. The organisation needs your name and email address, so by signing up you agree to have this information shared with the organisation. You can sign up until the 30th of November 23:59. A maximum of 20 people can join the training so be quick to apply if you want to join!

If you sign up for this training (December 6), you are also expected to participate in the second training (January 19).

Unfortunately, you cannot enroll for this activity anymore, as the enrollment period has ended.
