Studium Generale: The world of chips
This is a Dutch lecture!
Chips are in almost all devices, from cars to mobile phones. We need so many that there is even a shortage. Producing more quickly is not easy: making chips is a true feat that starts with silicon – sand – and ends with transistors that are only a few nanometers in size. Chips are made using lithography, a technology in which the Netherlands is the world leader with ASML's EUV machines. Meet prof. Dr. Marcelo Ackermann, XUV Optics UT, on EUV lithography; Prof. dr. Bram Nauta, Integrated Circuit Design UT, about the design of a chip; Prof. dr. Jurriaan Schmitz, Integrated Device and Systems UT, about the smallest transistors. In collaboration with KIVI Students Twente and Inter-Actief.
