Computing with Secrets: The Magical World of FHE
Currently, gaining insights out of data is essential for all organizations around the world. However, often you need information from other organizations to get to the insights that really matter. Think about hospitals and health insurers that want to compute the effectiveness of newly developed drugs or fighting money laundering. Simply combining this sensitive information is almost always prohibited by the privacy laws (GDPR). Luckily, there are fascinating techniques that allow us to compute on sensitive information from different parties.
In this lunch lecture, we will dive deeper into one of these techniques, namely (Fully) Homomorphic Encryption. (F)HE allows you to compute on data that remains fully encrypted. This has many useful use cases, like fetching information from a database without revealing the query, computing averages without sharing the inputs, or training machine learning models on secret data. In this talk, we will explain how (F)HE exactly works and demonstrate its concrete use cases.
